DEP (Device Enrollment Program)

Plain-English definition, in the context of supervised iPhone protection.

By Yisrael Schneider, Manager ·

Apple's Device Enrollment Program is the mechanism for pre-binding an iPhone to an MDM operator at factory. When an enterprise (like The Kosher iPhone) orders devices through DEP, each device reports to Apple's DEP servers on first boot and automatically enrolls in the enterprise's MDM — before the user sees the setup screen. No "accept management profile?" prompt. Supervision is already live from the first tap.
