HomeWhy Managed

Why ongoing management beats one-time setup

Configuration is a single moment. Software, apps, iOS, family needs, and content all change. A phone that was kosher on day 1 needs management to stay kosher on day 365.

There are two business models in the kosher phone space. **One-time setup**: a technician configures your phone once, you pay a fee, they hand it off. **Ongoing management**: the phone is continuously administered by a team for its entire life. We believe strongly in the second model — here's why.

What drifts over time

A phone configured today will be out of spec within months if no one is watching it:

- **iOS updates** change what apps are installed by default. Apple ships new apps in point releases. A filter list that didn't include "Apple Journal" before iOS 17.2 is now missing a new app. - **App updates** add new features. A banking app that was clean on install can add a news feed or a chat feature in an update. - **Profile expiration**: some MDM enrollments expire after 1 year and need renewal. - **Content filter lists** need weekly updates. New problematic sites open daily. - **Family needs change**: the teen who needed a locked-down whitelist at 14 needs a slightly broader one at 17 for college apps. - **New apps the family legitimately needs** come out constantly — banking, maps, grocery, calendar, school-parent portals.

Without active management, the phone that shipped kosher slowly drifts out of spec. One-time setup services call it "done" on day 1 and move on. We don't.

What ongoing management gives you

With ongoing management, every one of those drift points is actively maintained:

**Weekly filter updates.** Our content filter lists refresh automatically every Monday. You don't download them — they're pushed via MDM.

**iOS compatibility testing.** Before Apple's iOS updates land on your device, we test them against our MDM policies on internal devices. If something breaks, we hold the update for your phone until we've pushed a patch.

**App request handling.** Need a new app added to your whitelist? Text or call our team. Most requests are approved and pushed the same day. Your device receives the app without any action on your end.

**Device health monitoring.** Our management console watches for anomalies: unauthorized profile installs, jailbreak attempts, unusual network activity. If something is wrong, we know before you do.

**Remote lock/wipe.** Phone lost at the airport? Car broken into? One text to our team locks the device immediately. It stays locked even after a factory reset.

**Configuration migrations.** Upgrade to a new iPhone model? We move your entire configuration — whitelist, settings, restrictions — to the new device. You don't reconfigure anything.

The economics

A common objection: "Ongoing monthly fees seem expensive compared to a one-time setup."

Over three years, a managed device and a one-time-setup device usually reach similar total cost — because the one-time setup device requires periodic re-setups, new device replacements when the phone isn't re-upgradable, and usually a community tech to call when something breaks.

The difference is where the value goes: with us, you're paying for a team that keeps the device tuned forever. With one-time setup, you're paying for a single moment and doing the rest yourself.

What happens if you cancel management

Your phone keeps working. Every app currently on it continues to function. Your data stays. We never lock or disable a phone because a subscription lapsed — that would be punitive and inappropriate.

What stops: new app approvals, filter updates, remote support, lost-device rescue. You keep the last-known-good state of your phone, frozen in time.

Most customers who cancel come back within a few months when the drift starts to show.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the monthly fee cover, specifically?

The MDM management itself, app request handling, content filter updates, device health monitoring, remote support, lost-phone recovery, iOS compatibility testing, and priority support via phone and text.

Is there a month-to-month option, or annual only?

Month-to-month available for all plans. Annual plans get a 2-month discount (pay for 10, get 12).

If I cancel and re-subscribe, do I have to re-configure?

No. Your configuration stays on our MDM server. Re-subscribing brings your exact previous policies back on.
